Reading these research papers over the years, led me to believe that I was not autistic. I have since been diagnosed, but I was misled for a while due to these inaccurate papers. I also agree that the idea of a comparison between autistic and non-autistic is not always helpful because it highlights that we are unlike normal people; when what is really needed is to show how our traits can be postive things in our lives and in other people’s lives

Well done!

(If I recall correctly, I scored perfect or nearly so on that test. Doesn’t make me less clueless in the world, especially the online world.)

to give to the psych was the one I knew to be wrong!
Thinks: you think I’ll think they’ll think it’s in that one…

Hate the stupid actors’ eyes test. SBC should have done better by now.

I saw a psych once who didn’t even say hello to me,
just said ‘touch nose’. I stared with incredulity.
They repeated; ‘touch nose’. I responded;
‘What? whose nose? My nose? Your nose?
Or do you mean touch knows, carrying information like Braille?’
They responded ‘touch nose’ I responded; (with bitter and insulted sarcasm)
‘really? Dog training on people?’ They said
‘Oh you must be one of the high-functioning ones, I can’t deal with you.’
Meeting was five mins and told me just how others get treated. Touch nose ffs…

Brilliant post. I’m an autistic adult studying a Masters in Autism and Aspergers Syndrome and just wanted to let you know that I will be referencing this post in my first assignment critiquing autism theory. X

A compelling chunk of information to consider. It makes sense why the diagnosis process can take so long, especially for females or queer gendered folk

I am a parent of an autistic., He’s 15 and he has all kinds of abilities for reading real emotions that he could never show on these kinds of tests. Thank you so much.
