thank you for this post. I keep trying to find adequate words to express how I feel, but really they seem too trivial. I am continually finding out how vastly more complex all these marginalized groups are. It only recently occurred to me that I was stereotyping gays, for example, even as I was identifying as pro-LGBT, and my understanding of disabled people keeps growing every time I read posts such as yours. I agree with you. Maybe there are more people out there than I was willing to admit. Community, not politically run countries, is the hope of the future. Non-geopolitical communities of no more than say a couple hundred people in each, establishing a greater ‘geocommunity-community’, each run by EVERY SINGLE PERSON in that community. There are no leaders, only one leader, comprised of everyone in the group. — Alas we come to the bottom line–I don’t think the world is ready for this wonderful thing called community. Money, power, prestige is what 90% of Americans want. I know the fallacies, I know the lies, the traditions, the way we are taught, the history, all that and THOSE factors set the precedents of how this and other countries are run. When our civilization can make greed and the subtleties of this kind of thinking as taboo as say smoking, we might have a chance. As it is, things are going the opposite direction. There is so much more to say about this, several books can be written about it. Thank you for sharing this. By the way, have you read M. Scott Pecks A Different Drum? A good book on the subject.

I was just having an internal conversation about this the other day. I am exactly on this path. I’m telling my truth, regardless of expectations found on any side. And I’m connecting with whoever is equally committed to the paradoxes and contradictions of their story and its fit in the grand scheme of things. I find that when I’m authentic in this way, I actually find my broader connections to people in the seemingly most unlikely of places. THANK YOU for writing this post. We’re on the same team.
