If we all identify as “autistic”, then we can combat some of the stigma around […]

I’m crying. I’m so far from the norm and I vibe with this so much. It’s fucking awful. I See you. I care. You matter. And this post matters so much. Gah, I don’t really know what else to say. Just…thank you.

Now let us say they actually manage to organize. There is a lot of disdain for NTs and LF among aspies. It could create damage in the future. Just my two cents.

My whole life has been an ongoing series of wrecks, and I finally know why.
I loved this article. Among other things, I am developing a new appreciation for developmentally disabled people. I certainly don’t see myself as in a preferable condition to anyone else.
Reading this almost makes me want to seek out others on the spectrum and hug them, except that I hate leaving the house and I don’t like hugs. I’m guessing they don’t either.

There was a time when I thought low functioning people might need aversives, unproven medical treatments, institutionalized settings etc. Because I didn’t know alot about either those treatments or low functioning people–but because of the way you explained it, reading your article changed my mind. Now I use my ability to speak ,as a high functioning/Aspie, to speak *against* such able-ist propaganda–and have for the last two years.

On a side note: I have felt helpless and scared ALOT. The days I thought aspie supremacists things were directed towards nt society that was more powerful than me.Lower functioning people never came to mind. (Maybe that’s even worse.) I was afraid to associate myself with low-functioning people, because being smart made me feel worthwhile. I didn’t know then, that doing so was feeding into the same able-ist game that puts all of us at risk. Some people will still ignore you, even if can speak. Now, that doesn’t justify anything. Arrogance is still not ok. At the same time, I wanted you have more tools in your toolbox to be able to dismantle supremacy and able-ism.

I think it is interesting that they make a point to say this in the first place. My mom is a special education teacher, and I get upset about some of the things that she says about her students sometimes. She once said “Why are you so upset? it is not like I am talking about you.” She really doesn’t realize that I am JUST LIKE her students. Its really ruined our relationship.

Honestly, I have a big concern for all disabled people who can not speak or are just not taken seriously because I have heard a lot of stories about abuse, and I myself can personally attest to how it simply feels for everyone to think the way you is is wrong. I am concerned about their emotional well-being, I am concerned that something could be going on in the bigger picture. When my mom says “my students don’t want to get on the bus” (which she explains as wanting to play head games, which makes me sick) this is what I see. People who want to communicate, or at least have something going on that we do not know about. Even it were depression, it is still not acceptable to let things go on like that. I can not seem to make my mom see it that way, she just constantly wants to consider herself a victim or a hero, “teaching my students that they can’t act this or that way if they want people to take them seriously.”

Why are you even bothering to pretend to be human? It’s like gaydar or something, they know yer not, you know yer not, why bloody bother trying to pass as one of them?
